Early this month it was reported that the increase in the minimum wage is effected on January 1st. If I am not wrong, the increase is from $8.07 to $8.55 having a 48 cents increase from last year. This is a good news to workers. But unfortunately because of the ailing economy, the Boeing company, which is one of the main companies here in the Northwest, has declared to lay off about 2,000 workers here in the state. The lay off is set to occur in two months from now. I heard this in our local news and it is really a bad news that this lay off will be added to the national statistics to which our newly elected President have said that unemployment may reach a double digits before it becomes better. We can only hope for the best in the coming months.
I am contemplating of looking for a job and for most of the employers I found here the most is in healthcare. I am a certified nursing assistant back in Georgia but if I work here I need to contact Department of Health of what I need to do to be state certified here in Washington. I have options of applying in nursing facilities that hire nursing assistants and get certified through them. But I have to think it more over since being a Nursing Assistant is not really an easy job. I can also wait until I finish my Medical Coding and Billing training and then find a job in any healthcare facilities. I need to plan how I am going to pursue all my career plans cause I figured being at home is not really for me.
